Monument in Elliston to the terrible sealers tragedy of 1914. Father and son from Elliston froze to death together on the ice, along with over a hundred others.

Find out about it here

Next stop, Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, where I finally get the chance to climb up to the light tower.

Here we find a D E Stevenson connection. Robert Stevenson, DES's great grandfather and lighthouse engineer whose family designed and created lighthouse in Scotland for hundreds of years.

Home

Stevenson had a guiding hand in the early years of the Newfoundland Lighthouse Commission.

More Stevenson connecting. The first, original light at Cape Bonavista (not this one) was taken from the Bell Rock Lighthouse at Inch Cape, Scotland.

I take a morning walk down the road from our B&B, to the beach at Wild Cove Road, Twillingate.

...and do a little sketching.

Our landlady at the Dove's Nest, Diana Dove--also an expert rug hooker--takes us with her on her morning walk with her dog, and gives us an excellent nature tour.
