NEWFOUNDLAND 2017

IN NEWFOUNDLAND 2017

Headquarters of the Flat Earth Society (and coffee roastery). But I never found it open. But later, we'll see one of their Four Pillars of the Earth.

We tour the Marine Interpretation Centre & Fisherman's Union (which we learn the history of) at Seldom. There's also a preserved company store there. One of the many old calendars I captured.

Now we're in the town of Fogo, which has a number of folk museums, including the Bleak House Museum.

Every small town has an old house or two, left to the town as a museum when the last inhabitant dies. They are a treasure trove of local social history, well staffed with volunteers.

Brimstone Head, one of the Four Corners of the Earth, according to the Flat Earth Society. We didn't have time to explore; we had a ferry to catch.

Boarding the M.V. Beaumont-Hamel, at Stag Harbour. The other ferry is the M.V. Veteran.

We have now driven across the island (the mainland, that is) to Gros Morne National Park.

Here we are on a geological hike through the area of the Park that reveals the Earth's Mantle pushing up through the crust. It's filled with natural history and rarish plants.

Like this one, some 60 years old.

More mantle. Rain is getting serious.

With the rain now quite serious, we take refuge to have our picnic in the Discovery Centre. Here we see our geologist guide turned rug hooking demonstrator.
