VANCOUVER ISLAND 2016

SUSAN AND NORMAN
ON VANCOUVER ISLAND AND QUADRA 2016

Next, I head up to Sidney for the day, to spent time with my Dessie friend, Tricia. Here we are by the Sidney pier, after spending lots of time in the book shops

And here she is with her new boyfriend, Sidney.

Tricia gives me a couple of O. Douglas books from her shelves. When I get home, I find that this one must have been destined for me from the start....

And now, we set off, Norman and I, with Doshu and Soshin, for Quadra Island, between Vancouver Island and the mainland. Here's the view from the ferry, Powell River Queen, as we leave Campbell River, heading for Quathiaski Cove.

Our destination, Discovery Islands Lodge. Off grid, at the end of a long rugged road. Surrounded by islands. Be warned, I took a LOT of pictures. I've tried to cull them.

Take a look online

A hike towards Surge Narrows; I have to stop on the way but the others go later.

Norman and I pause on the shore as the tide comes in.

Later, the others make it to the end of the trail, where the tide is surging in the narrows.

Here is the ever changing view from the front of the lodge. Through the islands, you can see the mainland in the distance.

The lodge is build partly on the shore, partly over the water.

Norman and I take the canoe along Hoskyn Channel, having been well warned about the time to avoid tide changes.

We see a seal or two on the rocks
